Default Searching Craigslist ads for beekeeping equipment using IFTTT

You can use free IFTTT.com to notify you when ads with a specific word or phrase is posted to Craigslist. IfThisThenThat https://ifttt.com/create/if-classifieds?sid=2

Create a free account there, then create a new "Applet". The "service" you want is called "Classifieds". You will need to manually search Craigslist (enter your search term; "beehive" or "extractor" etc etc) for what ever item you want, then post the URL/link for that Craigslist search into the right place on IFTTT, and tell IFTTT you want an email / text / etc when ads meeting that search criteria are posted.

It works quite well. Just pay attention to your search phrase so you don't get flooded with notifications of unwanted items.

I wasn't familiar with SearchTempest until now. It seems to work for me, but I'm not sure what it offers beyond [a lot of ads and] Craigslist's own search capabilities. Craigslist already offers ads from nearby other Craigslist regions.

The point of using IFTTT is not that it searches Craigslist, but that it monitors new Craigslist listings for you, and sends you nearly immediate notifications.

Yep I understand the monitor capability your talking about which sounds great , but back when search tempest was working like it should you didn't have to search every individual city one at a time you could enter your zip code and a search radius in miles and you had it .

Here is a screenshot of the results of searching the Tri-Cities TN Craigslist for "drill press":

(This is relevant to IFTTT because whatever results your Craigslist search returns is what IFTTT will work with.)

Note that in addition to results from the Tri-Cities area, there are also results from the [separate] Asheville NC Craigslist region are displayed. While the limited screenshot doesn't show it, the results also include listings from other Craigslist areas including southeastern KY as well.

Also note that Craigslist offers search options on the left of the screen, including a "miles from ..." checkbox. So set up your Craigslist search with the options you want, execute the search, and then copy that Craigslist URL/link to the IFTTT applet you are creating. IFTTT will replicate that CL search including your options, each time that IFTTT runs.

Also note that most Craigslist ads do not include a specific address of the seller, so searching by "miles from ... " is very crude, at best, regardless of whether one uses just CL, or in combination with IFTTT or SearchTempest.

It anyone wants to see the full CL results for the screenshot, this URL should set it up, and also allow playing with the CL search options:

I created one, but attempting to create a second one with a different search term just took me back to the already generated one. As far as I can tell, no more than one search can be run concurrently. This makes the "applet" just a useless curiosity.

I have a current IFTTT search for "drill press" that regularly returns results. I also have one for "free treadmill"* that also occasionally returns results. So my experience is that multiple CR searches do work with IFTTT.

*(No, I'm not an exercise fanatic. Treadmills have useful parts.)

Rader, does IFTTT only work on CL ads or it will work with other auction sites too like
amazon and ebay? Other than CL can I use it with other sites too?

IFTTT has an Ebay "service". It works with many other sites as well - look at the "Choose a Service" page.

I wasn't aware that Amazon was an "auction" site ... but IFTTT does have an "Amazon Alexa" service.

They did a long time ago when starting. I don't really know their business model with
the changes anymore. But ebay did a better job so amazon now have
flat fees on majority of its products. The make an offer option is consider a
bid to me. Because everybody is bidding on the same item. Price is negotiable with the seller.
    Thanks for the infos though.
