    Angry Mystery

Last Saturday, I brought home two 4 lb packages plus queen and installed each in a T bar hive the next day. When I checked on Wednesday one of the hives was completely empty, the other looked to be doing fine. This evening I checked the other hive and it was almost completely devoid of bees. It appears both packages swarmed out of what was supposed to be their new home. (Both hives had sugar water feeders).

Has anybody had this happen to them? I have been a beekeeper for 10 yrs and never seen anything like it.

Anybody had this happen to them? I have a third conventional hive alongside the two t bar hives and it is doing fine but it also didn't get new bees.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to Beesource!

Do the hives that had packages abscond have screened bottoms?
If yes, were those screened bottoms 'open', rather than closed off?

Is a T bar hive a Top Bar hive?

There's your answer. I was just in Madison last Saturday.

Opened screened bottoms and packages absconding, we hear about this every year. Sorry you lost your bees.
