    Default Hello from Upstate NY

Just wanted to say hello from around Albany NY

When I was a kid I "helped" my grandfather with his bees. He has long since passed but I thought I would reuse/rebuild some of his old equipment and start enjoying some bees again.

Most of his equipment was stored in a leaky barn and is ruined but I have managed to piece together about 10 medium boxes. Anyway wish me luck, planning on trying to trap a swarm or two this year.

I will have some questions in the trap forum shortly.

Great site and to all, thanks for sharing and helping.

You're taking a gamble reusing the old equipment as far as AFB but good luck maybe you'll be ok.

Don't worry about using old boxes (saying that there was no indication that your grandfathers hives died of a brood disease)... I would certainly start new with comb and frames. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

There are dozens of beekeepers in and near Albany, including me. You can find most at adirondackbees.org. It will be well worth your while to join Southern Adirondack Beekeepers Association.

Hello back at ya from across the river in northern Rensselaer County!

May I invite you to come to the next meeting of the Southern Adirondack Beekeepers Association on April 17th at 7 pm at the Cooperative Extension building in Ballston Spa? You can check our website at www.adirondackbees.org. Our meetings, and the monthly speaker's presentation, are free and always open to the public. (If you come, please come on over to the library table and say hi - I am the club 's librarian.)

    Thanks for the warm welcome

Enjambres, I actually Live in North Greenbush but I thought Albany was easier to identify. I will definitely try and make it to the meeting on the 17th. I do travel a bit for work so scheduling is always a little difficult.

I am going to try and catch a swarm this spring at the inlaws where I know of 3 wild hives. I will post some pics and my plan/questions in the trap forum shortly.

I look forward to learning as much as I can

    Greetings-
If you can access wild hives, read Cleo C Hogans posts, and email him for his method. It will allow you to get starts from those hives before they swarm without harming them. Put out swarm traps too.
