Default Small Hive Beetles in Package Bees

I can't help but think that the process of making packages from colonies down south will result in the inadvertent transfer of SHB with the package. Has anyone experienced this? Would it make sense to have some mesh large enough on one side of the package that the SHB will fall through and be lost forever en route to their new northern home?

I've seen small hive beetles in swarms. Wherever you have bees you're going to have beetles.

Yes, on occasion there can be SHB in packages. The Bee Busses have openings large enough for them to fall through but they can still travel with the cluster of bees in the Busses. The old wood cages do not have openings big enough to drop hive beetles out. Some methods of shaking packages limit the potential transfer of SHB, but it is possible with all methods.

One should also point out that not only southern packages, but also those from CA have the potential to have SHB.
