First timer.
I decided to try making some propolis tinctures & cremes using info from
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~reute001/htm-files/Propolis extract.html
Looks pretty good, using grain alcohol & 10% propolis, may try some petroleum jelly mixture when this is "ripe"
Wife mentioned some of the products she currently used stung her hands ,( possibly due to alcohol used as a solvent.), & some of the suggested recipes involved using oils , so I tried infusing some olive oil using the "heated method" from
https://beepothecary.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/how-we-make-propolis-oil-and-tincture/comment-page-1/
I didn't seem like there was much change in the propolis sediment afterwards. well it did break up a bit, but not nearly as much as the alcohol tinctures.
I tasted the results, expected it to be bitter, but it just tasted like oil. Is this normal, or do I just have cloudy olive oil?
I put 4 table spoons of propolis into 25 oz of olive oil heated in double boiler & stirred till it reache 120 degrees, continued stiring occasionally while it cooled, strained about 1/2 out for immediate use ( through coffee filter... slow!), but bottled the remainder with propolis to continue using the "unheated wait & shake" method.
Comments & advice ? thanks CE
