Default What is the fastest, easiest way to cut plastic foundation?

Hi! Getting ready to try my hand for the first time with queen rearing. Need to cut some plastic foundation and make room for Mann Lakes Cell Grid [plastic box].

What is the fastest, easiest way to cut plastic foundation?

    Thanks!

I have found a jig saw to be very easy to use and most people have one. The blade for metal worked better than the one for wood. You should have support on both sides of what you are cutting or the unsupported side vibrates a lot. A band saw works better with straighter cuts but few people have one. Do not use a table saw. It shattered the foundation with my one attempt.

If you use a circular saw or table saw, reverse the blade. It will then cut without shattering.

To just whack off an end piece (when using partial sheets of Pierco plastic foundation) I just score it with sheetrock knife and snap it off.

For one or two, that's what I would do.

For a lot of them that's what I would do.

    dtrooster,

Well, since I had a couple of old rusty tin snips laying around, I tried your method. It is presently over 102F here. So, believe it or not, the tin snips cut through the plastic foundation just like butter!

    Thanks for the help!

I own a plastics company. The way to cut this on a table saw is a zero clearance insert and a blade that is sharp with 80T.

Hmm well there's a handy tip!

Does this hold true for tungsten tipped blades?

    1. Tin snips
    2. bandsaw with a fine tooth blade
    3. skilsaw or tablesaw with reversed blade
    4. tablesaw with 80 tooth high atb melamine blade. This is the best choice if you have a lot to do.
