Bluebirds - any birders out there?

You guys need to teach your tree swallows to do this. We haven't got them to do it this year, but last year we had success.

I have 3 BB boxes on my property. Even though they are 100 yards apart, (recommended by Audubon Society) I have never in 8 years had Blues in more than 1 of them at a time. I always get 2 clutches a year from it though. I feed them live meal worms. I made a feeder next to the box and just put 10 worms a day in it and walk away. Even after the chicks have fledged, the mother takes the worms up into the trees to feed the chicks staying up there. It's great to watch.
Earlier this season with her first brood, I was cutting my grass on my lawn tractor and decided to check on the 4 eggs as I drove by. I looked in but couldn't see anything because the nest was deep, so I reached in and felt what I thought was one chick. I gently picked it up and brought it out to inspect. It was the mother sitting on her eggs!!! I always opened the door and backed off so she could fly away in case she didn't leave before I got there. I gently put her back and left thinking I'd never see her again because I thought she would abandon the nest out of pure terror but, a few days later, I saw Dad bringing Mom and the kids some juicy bugs...lol.

Orioles I do not know as I am a birder, Maybe a bird brain. But I do enjoy watching them Have 4 bluebird boxes, two seed feeders two hummingbird feeders and My favorite. The Orioles, have two pairs of Baltimore and a pair of Orchard Orioles. here is one of the male Baltimore's.

I had to look back a couple of years to figure out what this was for. I'm guessing this attracts orioles?

As you can probably see in the pic I use the same as you do to attract and keep them. This have been a very good year for Orioles. when that first started coming any movement inside the house visible through the window would sent them to flight. Now I can walk out on the Patio and they do not fly. When the feeder is empty, they squawk for me to fill it and only fly to the crabapple tree 20 feet away while I do. I really enjoy watching and listening to them while I drink my morning coffee!

As an amateur photographer i love to shoot birds, haven't timed things just right for the bluebird though. They are all a pleasure to watch and photograph, but i really fell in love with the little titmouse.

Tufted titmouse come to our feeders quite regularly, As long as the starlings are not there to disturb Everything. The only bird I hate! I know I can get rid of the starlings by not putting out suet cakes, But then the downy woodpeckers do not come!

I had tree swallows a few years back. It was almost magical watching them hover above me while I weeded the garden. Then the sparrows destroyed them shortly after the eggs hatched out. That was when I went to war against the sparrows.

I've always had bluebirds here and now that I have made it uncomfortable for sparrows I see them at 2 boxes but they only every lay in one.

I'd love to be able to attract orioles.

Try the cut oranges and grape jelly. They come around beginning to middle of May. I cut the oranges in half and put the jelly in a flat dish.

The orange and jelly work wonders for attracting Orioles, Especially if placed in an orange colored container. Hanging some horse hair in a fence or bush helps also They grab it up quickly to build their nests which are woven and hang from branches. Once they rear brood, they tend to return yearly to raise their brood where food is plentiful. We have a female that has no tail. For whatever reason it does not grow back. This is her third year coming so we know they return. I will try to get a picture of her!
