Smile New Member - Just caught first swarm! Advice appreciated

Hello! Am a 1st yr. beek with 2 hives - they are going great and we are waiting for our first honey harvest : ). We found a new swarm on a small tree and this morning got the swarm into a Nuc box. We put only 4 empty frames in Nuc (wanted room to scoop the bees into) Remaining bees have all migrated into the box - Yay! Swarm was only a foot off the ground so we have the nuc box on a cinder block near that tree. We are planning on placing the nuc box next to the existing 2 hives and, since it's a small swarm, we'll need to add more frames to fill the box & order a hive. We're already new to beekeeping & this was a great unexpected gift - but I'm definitely researching info. like mad and would appreciate advice as to next step, etc. Tks!!!

Congrats. I would recommend that you pull a frame of drawn out comb from one of your other hives and place it in the middle of your nuc. This will help out the queen to start laying sooner, and will help the workers drawing out the other frames by establishing a parallel surface. Feed the nuc a LOT, there going to need it to draw out there new home.

Welcome Keep in mind the 2 foot rule when moving the nuc.

I would put a fifth frame in the box as quickly as practical and put the frames close together in the middle of the box. Rooster's recommendation to put a frame of drawn comb in the hive is very good advice.
David. The way you want to keep bees is most likely at least as good as any way that I could suggest. Probably better.
