I used candy boards for the first time this past Winter and have a decent amount of leftovers. I just replaced some of them with syrup top feeders as we have some record warmth forecast for the next couple of weeks. What do you do with the leftovers? How do you clean the candy board?
Flushing the candy out of the board with hot water seemed like an obvious choice. Does it harm or warp the wood? It is a shame to waste the candy.
Leaving it out to be robbed out was another idea. I wasn't sure what Spring robbing would look like and wasn't sure what other critters I might attract.
Leaving it on the hive with the top feeder on top of it was a third idea - a double feeder? I didn't want the bees colonizing the candy board and wasn't sure how it would turn out.
Lastly, I thought of wrapping it, maybe freezing it and saving it for next year. I suspect mold might take over and I lose board and candy if I don't keep it frozen. That doesn't seem like a bad idea as it has no waste, but does occupy a bit of freezer space.
What do you do?
