Swarm date 06-19-2014. RECEIVED a swarm in the empty "guard" hive next to the garage man door. NOT from our bees, which are 15 miles west. Upon inspection, they where very runny, dirty Italians. A couple of weeks ago, we received 2 swarms in a beeyard 20 miles west. One was also very runny.

June 17, captured 3 swarms today bringing the total this year to 12. I am running out of equipment and had to put 2 today into nuc boxes. My experience is that the nuc boxes are to small for swarms and expect that I may have to recapture tomoorow morning.

Things are winding down here in Wisconsin as far as swarms go. It was the craziest year I've had for swarms. I started out with 3 hives and have caught 22 swarms since the end of may. I am running out of equipment and will be combining some of the smaller swarms. Would like to end up with around 15 good hives.

    Default Wisconsin

    What is needed:

    • zip code, city or county
    • date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
    • comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.
    Regards, Barry
