4/14/17 - Roanoke, VA. It looks like two swarms have moved into empty TBH's in my home yard. The hives are right next two each other maybe 4 feet from each other.

    Roanoke (Hollins area).
Homeowner saw the swarm move in and land on a tree about eye level. Nice size prime swarm. Took one sting when I was showing off for the home owner pulling out handfuls of bees without gloves on.

This is my tenth swarm this year (5 baited and 5 shook from trees). Running out of gear!

Maidens, Virginia near I-64. Caught my first swarm ever in a trap right in my own driveway, where it crosses a gully. I believe it moved in 5/5/17. Based on what I can see from the ground, probably 2-3#.

5/23/17 Hampton, VA. Picked up a cold, miserable swarm clinging to a small apple tree. Didn't spot a queen. Only weighed 7oz. soaking wet.

6/9/17 Caught another swarm in the Manchester industrial area. Second one on this property. This time they moved onto a nuc and instead of the flower pot. Had scouts on both for about five days. Appears to be a small swarm. Will know in a week or so when I take them home and put them in a proper box.

7/23/17, Roanoke VA, Swarm landed in a tree in Fishburn park. I was able to get a rope over the limb and shake it, but it was too high and the bees hardly reached the ground before flying back up. After the third shake a small group of them flew off. About 5 minutes later the rest left.

5/1/18 Maidens, Va. Spotted a swarm on the side of the road as we drove by. It was probably about 3 lbs originally. Best we can tell, a swarm landed on a small pine on the side of the road. The queen took flight, was hit by a car and landed in the road. The swarm coalesced around the queen, and was run over. About one pound of bees smashed. We found the (a?) queen. She was not smashed, but was dead. I raced home, got a swarm trap, and placed it next to the bees. They marched right in.

5/3/18 Caught a swarm after all. 5lbs+. They wouldn't go in the trap because I over-baited the box. I had to bring a less aromatic box and move them. Lesson learned: Don't overbait the inside of the box.
