Swarm in Roanoke, VA, May 7th. Workers said that they get several a year all within about 50 feet of the location of this swarm. It looked very small when I got onsite, but it was probably 3 pounds. Got them to march into a swarm box, and hopefully they will be there tonight for me to pick them up.

    2nd Swarm, 5-11-14, 75 degrees, sunny, 5mph wind, 10:30am, est. 3lb.

100_0583.jpgAs they were coming in to a pine tree, 15' up. Used a pole and bucket to get em. Took about 15 minutes as they were coming in to fully cluster.

Had one on Thursday, April 2nd and a second one on Monday, April 6th. Located in Suffolk, VA and the temperatures were in the high 70s. Best I can tell, both swarms departed the existing hive in late morning.

Friend say that one hive swarmed on Friday and two on Saturday from his yard. He was able to capture them.

4/27 - Probably about volleyball size.. at eye level on a pine sapling. My first.. got help with it. I could probably do it myself now, if they were low enough.

Got a call for a swarm, about the size of a pineapple (hived). While hiving it my son spotted another larger one in tree about 40 foot in the air. Hope they find a home!

I had my very first swarm ever move into my bait hive today. Giles County Va, Not sure of the weight- but they gathered on the front of the box and it looked like a lot of bees. I'd guess in the 3-4lb range. Today's weather was beautiful. They started moving in about 10:30am and were all mostly inside the box an hour later.

Got a call yesterday, Salem Virginia (Mason's cove). An honest 5 pound swarm. Hived them in a TBH at dawn, busy orienting this afternoon.

Got a small swarm in the Raleigh Court area of Roanoke, VA today. (7/17/15). No more than a pound and a half, two at the top. Nice bees though. About 6 feet in the limb of a flowing bush of some sort. Caged the queen and will get the box tonight.

    What is needed:

    • zip code, city or county
    • date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
    • comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.
    Regards, Barry

Just east of Roanoke, VA off of Rt. 460, 4/11/16, was splitting a friends hive and found queens cells. Eventually we looked up to see a nice 4 or 5 pound swarm. Would have loved to have seen that hive pre-swarm, it was loaded with bees.
