Hive swarmed today 7/2/11. I was away a week and couldn't check on a split I made into a deep brood box with a medium super 1/2 filled with honey. I believe the hive became honey bound. Too high to get, ignored swarm traps and left. Killington, VT 05751 :-(

Southern Vermont. About a 5 lb swarm 8 feet off the ground in a pine branch. Hived successfully and now sitting in my apiary. Love free bees.

    Swarmed and caught July 3rd.

They left my first hive, that was a nuc that I installed on May 6th.

Burlington VT. 05401. May 24. What I thought was the weaker of my two hives swarmed yesterday. Massive amount of bees 30 ft up in my neighbors tree. Extension ladder, pole pruner and tarp aided in the capture. And the dandelions have only been in bloom for a little over a week. What's up with that, damnit?

    What is needed:

    • zip code, city or county
    • date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
    • comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.

This forum is not for general discussion.

Got a solid swarm which had built comb on the underside of the trap. Must have been there a few days... Maybe swarmed about May 27 or 28

Swarm in a ten frame swarm box, hung under the eaves of a hunting blind, saw scouts on the evening of June 1, so it came in June 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

One from my own hives on July 27. Working the bee yard late, and looked up in the pines to see a basketball-sized swarm about 18 feet up. Came home and made a catcher out of a plastic water cooler bottle and a 12 foot extension pole. Next morning at dawn, I was there to catch that swarm before it got warm enough for them to leave.

Nice swarm about 12 feet up in a cedar tree. Shook them into a cooler-water-bottle/extension-pole swarm retriever and then put them into a swarm box with combs, set up on a step ladder. By dark they were all settled in. Glad that we collected them, as it began to rain at night and rained all the next day.

Swarm in a small fir tree, about 4 feet off the ground. Just a short distance from one of Kirk Webster's yards, so I assume they came from there. He's the one who asked the landowner to call me, so I know he doesn't have time to chase them. Thanks Kirk!

    June 20

Small colony in a swarm box on the back side of a shed in Middlebury. I've had a box there for two years and this is the first one. Blackest queen I've ever seen. Probably moved in about the 15th or so, judging by the brood. 4th of the season.

    June 22

Colony in my swarm box in my back yard. about 8 feet up in a pine tree. Saw bees checking the box, so I was watching pretty closely. Changed the oil in my driveway 90 feet away and came back to find they had moved in. Found the queen in the grass below the box at around 6pm in a cluster of bees. Dug in and plucked her out, climbed a ladder and let her go into the opening of the box. The bees settled right down in minutes. That's my 5th swarm of the season.
