Dawson, PA 15428. 6/23/09 3 days of beautiful weather in the low 80s dipping in the low 60s at night. Small softball sized swarm on fence post. I believe it was an afterswarm, cause lady said there looked to be a bigger mass of bees 2 days b4 this one showed up. First one wasnt there long at all. This was definately a swarm and not stragglers though cause we found the queen. Gonna possibly do a combine or try and winter them in a Nuc.

I picked up 2 swarms today! Both in trees no more than 6 feet from the ground, 50 miles apart but both were BEAUTIFUL!
I don't have enough equipment but hived one in a 10 frame deep and assembled the frames & foundation for another tonight. The second will be hived in the morning.
I'm not sure where to put them in my beeyard but I will get more hardware in the AM and figure that out.
Any suggestions on what to do to help them so late in the year?

8/9/2009 - collected a wild swarm about a mile from my place. There is a colonie in a free hollow, according to the property owner it has been there for years, and this was the second swarm this year.

This swarm was over twice the size of the one I collected in May, also about a mile from my place but in the other direction.

Retrieved a small swarm 4.28.10 from the front of one of my hives, it probably came from one of it's neighbors. Cumberland County, Pennsylvania

Default 5 swarms in last 5 weeks.

We have gathered 5 swarms over the last 5 weeks in fruit trees within 100 feet of our hives. (One 2 days ago and another today.) All seem to be doing VERY WELL INDEED!
We had all 3 hives survive the winter in strong shape, but even if all 3 swarmed, where did the other 2 swarms come from? Any ideas anyone?
