5/15/15 66401 Captured 2 swarms this morning. One 20' feet up above my hives and another on a tree limb 5' feet up and 20 yards from my hives. The taller ones were from a hive that had 2 recently hatched queen cells. The lower one looks like it was from a nuke I queened a month ago and had just moved into 2 deeps Monday.
Two swarms today, 6/22, one high in my cedar tree, one low in the same tree...likely both from my hives, but I've not been able to determine that yet. I've been concerned about being nectar/honey bound in a few of my hives. We'll know more tomorrow. I got them both for now, but that may or may not take.
date when the bees swarmed or when you found the swarm.
comments - example: if the swarm came from your hive, or if you were called to pick up a swarm, how long was it there. This is not for cutouts unless the bees just took up residence and are not established. It would also be great to include a small photo of the swarm.
April 11, 2016.....caught one of my own hive's swarms today here in Sedgwick Co. Here's pic of them moving into my trap box.....only 20 ft. away from the swarming hive.
4/18/17. Emporia.
Swarm moved into my swarm trap on Prairie street. Unknown if they are feral or from someone else's hive. Not from my hives since they are nowhere near.
5/4/17 - Lawrence, KS 66044. Found a swarm in a bait hive. Hive was strapped to a tree, about 10' above the ground, along a treeline in a residential neighborhood. Hive was in full shade and facing south.
5/12/17 - Lawrence, KS 66044. Found a different swarm in the same bait hive. Hive was strapped to a tree, about 10' above the ground, along a treeline in a residential neighborhood. Hive was in full shade and facing south. Guess I got a lucky spot now.
Swarm in our bee yard, too high up in a tree to reach. They didn't stay long, maybe a couple hours. Later, upon examining a hive, it had a SHB infestation, so I suspect this swarm abandoned that hive body.
Watched a swarm move into a trap this morning, May 10, at 11 am. Trap is a 6-frame homemade box on my front balcony, north side of the building, about 30' in the air. Lawrence, Kansas. Douglas County.
Found a small swarm in a trap yesterday, June 20. There was not much comb drawn but some capped brood. Seems to have been a slow year for swarms. Lawrence, Kansas.
I'm East of you in Ozark Mo. and I had 1 about a week ago in a trap.
Missed a swarm at my Pastors front yard because of doing splits with Queen cells.
I have several other traps ready to move but I need more stands in my bee yards.
