Goldenrod is just starting in Polk County, elev about 1200 ft, about 90 miles west of Charlotte; has been blooming about 2 weeks already up in Henderson County, next county to my west & 1000 ft higher. Joe Pye has been blooming here for 2-3 weeks.

I've noticed that on days when it's warm enough for the bees to fly, a few are bringing small amounts of pollen in. I don't know what it is, but some is a pale yellow color, some a creamy white. I know there is some Mahonia blooming here & there, but there's not that much of it around.

Camellia started blooming about 1 week ago, crocuses have been blooming for about 2 weeks. Gardenia has some nice fat buds, should bloom within the next week or two, if the weather cooperates.

Was just out looking at my bees. A few are bringing back some pollen that's a medium gray color, some a little darker. Would that be elm?

I have seen the same thing, Buncombe County 28748. During the month of January I have a small weed growing as a cover in my garden. Very small white flowers, covered up in bees. Look for Red Maple and Willow very soon.

yes it is chickweed. Thanks or the ID. I looked it up online and that exactly what it is. They work it very hard around here when the weather warms enough to alow for foraging.

Red maple in front yard really starting to bloom now. Also saw a few willows turning yellow. It's right around the corner.

Bees have been bringing in a lot of yellow pollen recently. It looks like the Maples are blooming. That is probably where it is coming from. Also, the Pear tree is in the process of blooming. Full bloom should occur by mid-nextweek.

Pear trees are in peak bloom over in town. Pear tree in my yard is struggling, though.

28748-Western Buncombe County North Carolina. In the mountains not in the river valley.
This week the Red Maple has been as good as I have ever seen it since I moved here in 2004. The blooms are profuse and started about a week ago.
Also I saw the first dandelion. Cherry started blooming this week as well as forsythia. Southern High Bush Blueberry will be blooming soon as well. In the woods, trout lilly are blooming. Also another small tree which I'm not familiar with started blooming this week. Many weeds are blooming currently. Willows are in full bloom. Lots of pollen going to the hive.

Blackberries are in peak bloom. Not sure why I haven's seen bees working it though...
