Henbit blooming in my harvested soybean fields. Typically waits till march...
    Hindsight is 20/10, not 20/20...
After the fact, I always know what didn't work.

Answer is in! Henbit just starting to bloom this week. Saw a few maples open today, and an elm or two yesterday.

I look forward to reading about all the bloom marching up my way. Snow on the ground here this morning, but it's supposed to get near 60 for the next couple days.

Very first pollen I am seeing come into the hive today. The bees are very busy. It is milky whitish color. I am assuming it is coming from this but really don't know and also don't know if this is an elm or maple. zipcode 63091.

American Elm I would say. My bees have been bringing in elm pollen on warm days for the last two weeks. A few days ago I noticed the silver maple pollen coming in by the truckload.

I can't tell what the tree in the picture is. Based solely on bud size I would say Silver Maple.

Is the pollen color right for the trees. I know bad picture. I have my display light on my camera turned down to save bat power and never know what I am getting pict. wise. Hope you post what you see next hear cause I will know what to look for in a couple of week from when you post.

The Silver Maples have yellow pollen, but so do the Willow trees. My farm is about 2/3 river bottom, so I have tons of Willow and Silver Maple. I was seeing the elm pollen two weeks ago, but the yellow pollen just showed up in the last few days.

The tree in your picture is not a Willow. I am pretty sure it's a maple, but could be an Elm. As far as the pollen you see the bees bringing in, I would be pretty certain it's Elm. Do you see bees on the tree in your picture?

Since barry hinted on these threads to keep the comments down, I will quit taking this thread off track, after this comment. They are not on this tree to the point you can hear the constant buzz like they will be but looking hard, I did see a couple bees. I thought I would see a lot it being the first thing. I should be more careful with my picture taking. I guess it doesn't matter what it is though I have other trees that are simular but don't seem as far along and also some don't have the darker redish color of buds. I sprayed dormat spray on my apple peach and pear trees yesterday and they are not even close yet. End of march for them. Thanks for trying to help with the Id of the tree. This is only my first winter and I am trying to learn.

75 degrees today. My bees were really loaded with what appeared to be light tan pollen. First time I have seen it this year. Checking pollen.com it appears it may be elm.

52 degrees today. North wind kept it pretty cool.

I saw my first dandelion flowering today. I didn't look at the Red or Silver Maples in my town but I'll bet they are close.

I have some witch hazel trees planted and I found one that is bloomed with a bee working it. I didn't check the rest of them, and thought they bloomed in the late fall. They are only little saplings, so they aren't going to have any impact on the bees though. Maybe a few years from now. I opened one hive up and found a frame of brood on top. I didn't go any further since it was only in the 50's. I expect to see pollen by the weekend here. It's starting up.
