Sumac is budding out hard. Last chance for crop of darker honey and end of flow for me.

many thanks for the reports brooksville. it makes me hopeful that we'll be seeing tree pollens coming in here in not too many more weeks.

Thought it was a bit early....

it varies somewhat from one year to the next. from my journal:

    021912: RED MAPLE
    020413: RED MAPLE
    021614: RED MAPLE
    030615: RED MAPLE
    022716: RED MAPLE

i've noticed that from southern georgia/alabama to up here there's usually about a month's difference in blooms and also swarms. it's nice to get the heads up from these reports on the forum. thanks again.

Square, no problem. Seeing how far north you are and looking at your dates, the maple bloom looks normal. Ill keep this thread posted. We have our bees on 200 acres. !00 acres are planted pines loaded with blackberry, 100 acres of swamp loaded with maple and poplar. I am sure there are other trees, those are just the ones I am familiar with. We also plant a 2 acre deer plot in crimson clover. Last year it was great seeing all the bees working the clover and blackberry.

I have one male red maple that is fully opened up in bloom and full of bees. Most other red maples I've seen in the area are just now at bud break. There is also some dandelion, oregon grape, ground ivy, henbit and dead nettle to come in.
