Basswood (Tilia sp) was being worked at dusk in Long Island City (zip 11101) on 6/10/15--right across from the United Nations building. Nice to see bees in the city.

    What is needed:

    •zip code, city or county
•date when the plant first bloomed
    •name of the plant
•comments - example: if it was the end of the bloom just add that to the comments

Prunus virginiana (chokecherry) and Robinia pseudoacacia (black locust) are now blooming in New Haven, CT
Melilotus alba (Dutch clover) is beginning as well, but I've not seen my bees on any flowers.
It's predicted to rain intermittently for the next week. I hope the nectar isn't washed out of the flowers.

I've got early crocus (C. tommasinianus (or something like that)) and snowdrops blooming in New Haven. The red maple buds are shut tight, but there's a little bit of color showing on the bud scales that seems to indicate that they're swelling and getting ready to pop.

    probably skunk cabbage
i suspect skunk cabbage based on the following observations. last week i found a plant while on a vacation a couple zones warmer (7a). what stood out from that sample i collected was the inside of the plant was like one of those puff balls; i.e. it was coated in a soft yellow dusty pollen. well today we hit about 68f and the girls were coming in with a similar color but what stood out is their bodies were covered in the pollen too.

This weekend had Scilla, red maple, and dandelions at the south foot of a stone wall. Looks like a few days later than 2018, but barely.
