It took a while to find the settings but I finally had a bee help me with it. So I put her picture up as an avitar.

How can I get permission for my other avitar to be my signature?
All of my opinions and suggestions are based on my five decades of actual beekeeping,
not so much on book learning, watching YouTube videos nor reading internet sites.

How can I resize photos in my Photo File so they will be accepted by the Avatar option?

Provided you are working with a windows PC left click the start menu that is at the bottom left of your screen
click all programs and go to accessories.
Then look down through that list of programs and open paint.
Open your photograph in paint by clicking the top left corner in paint and then click open and find the photo you want to edit and click it
You may want to crop a piece of a photo so select your photo and use the crop feature
If you just want to re size the photo click resize and change the pixels to 80x80
Then save the photo as a JPG named for example avatar
    Then upload it
I just tested this and it worked.
The Avatar says it failed to upload like OdFrank said happened to him but it works regardless.
I usually use photoshop but Microsoft paint works just fine and it comes stock as part of windows.
I look forward to your Avitar

I used the Microsoft Office 2010 Picture Manager, which has a file compression option. I compressed my selected photo to their e-mail messages level, and cropped a little. That gave me 50.1 kB. I uploaded that and the system didn't complain. Inspecting the image data of the displayed avatar, I see 1.84 KB (1,889 bytes), 80px 58px.

An alternative to using MS Paint or Photoshop is to use an online photo resize utility, such as this one ...

Well, now it's too small? Couldn't get it to take 80X80 Pixels.
