Default #8 Hardware cloth...where to buy it?

I have searched all the big home improvement stores, tractor supply-ish type places for #8 hardware cloth to no avail. Does anyone know a good source?

Try your local HARDWARE store, asking for 1/8" hardware cloth. Big Box stores don't get enough requests/sales to justify stocking it. The mom and pop stores usually stock the harder to find stuff because they know what people actually need in the local area through repeat customers. If nothing else, try Amazon. Most of the bee companies only sell it by the 100' roll, although either Kelley or Brushy Mountain used to sell it by the foot. I get mine through the local hardware store, either by the foot or in 10'X36" rolls ($19.99 + tax). Good luck.

I got mine from ACE hardware store. Had to order it online but will ship it to the store for free.

Some Ace Hardware stores sell it. Also Betterbee sells it by the foot and various roll lengths.

I bought some at Hardware & Tools.

I got it from an online hardware store but the shipping was high. Need a fair amount later this week to seal up a neighbor's house. (I think I maybe lost a swarm, bees went in her vent?... ooops)

I bought a roll 36" x 10' on Amazon for $25, and since i have Amazon Prime i got free two day shipping. May be more than i'll use, but it is my experience that i need more than i have on just about everything.

    +1

I have a couple of hives just south of New Milford. Had to find some between there and White Plains. Nothing beats googling "hardware" and calling every store in a given radius. Took a little effort, but finally on what must have been the 15th call I found the 1/8'' cloth, sold by the foot.

I concur with amazon. Usually a better price than local hardware stores and if you are a Prime member, it's at your home in two days free. Good luck

Hardware stores sell hardware cloth. The Truevalue store in Matthews, Renfrow's, sells it by the foot. Check with a "real" hardware store. If they have nails in bins, they will have hardware cloth.

Incidently #8 is what is normally used for window screens.

If #8 hardware cloth was normally used for window screens, all kinds of bugs would be able to come through the screen.

#8 hardware cloth has holes that are 1/8" (minus the wire diameter) with 8 wires per inch. Regular window screen has holes that are much smaller, 18x14 wires per inch is a common size.

+1 on ebay, unless you're commercial and can use a lot of it. Ebay seemed the cheapest for buying a few feet.
