    Default jar o pac honey

Has anyone tried fat bee mans jar o pac idea? I'm starting my first hive this year and would like a little honey, but I'm afraid that method would really reduce the honey harvest.

Following. I think this idea is intriguing. I would probably only do it if I had more hives than I needed, so using one as a test wouldn't matter.

I have not tried that myself. However, from other threads, I would suggest having more hives/experience first. A thread from a year ago:

i made a couple supers that held pint jars, i drizzled bees wax in the bottoms before i inverted them. i put them on my 2 strongest colonies, out of maybe 60 colonies. they filled several of the jars, and it was cool but the hives next to the 2 i used had 3 medium supers mostly full, and those 2 hives had filled several jars and backfilled the brood nest which i don't extract. so it cost me honey and it probably cost the hive population as the queen was crowded down. if it was just a hobby and i had lots of bees i'd probably play around with it, but not now.justin

No free lunch and this parlor trick is hard on the honey production. Get your picture with a bee beard instead if you want street cred.

This is easily one of the best one liners on beesource.
