Default making up a nuc hive

I made up a nuc with 2 frames of brood in all stages, a frame of honey and 1 empty frame.Looks like plenty of nurse bees, but very few foragers . I installed a new queen and put food on the hive. Is it going to be a problem not having foragers right now?I should have brood hatching soon.

The bees will be fine. Do you plan on overwintering this hive as a nuc?

A little off topic but, this is my first year with a hive. How can you tell the difference between nurse bees and foragers.

Nurse bees will be foragers when they get a little older. I think at about 3 weeks of age. In the case of a nuc though they will probably recruit some a little younger. They'll be fine.

Foragers are the ones with pollen on their legs.

If you supply food it will hopefully allow the hive to store a bit away until the hive has gained a good amount foragers. I am thinking of doing same as you, build a nuc now to see if it gets through winter.

They'll be just fine. Those bees will become foragers soon enough.
    Try it. What could happen?

You will have foragers in about three days. The new hive needs to re organize it's colony.... takes about that much time.

Just started a nuc myself Pappa. I put in 3 frames and hoping they will make their own queen. Good luck to you. We will see how this works out. Be interesting to see if walkaway split will make a queen and survive late in season.

Checked 2 nucs started at end of July. Had queens laying in both. Whew! Now hoping they will have time to store enough food for winter...
