Default with foubdation vs w/o foundation

Just wanted to know before I buy my hive. What are the pro and cons of using frames with foundation and using without foundation.

You can leave yourself future options if you buy GTB and GBB frames (grooved top & bottom bars), then when you glue a thin strip of wood in the top groove for foundationless, just glue it in with a little glue at each end so that in future you can remove this guide and go back to plastic foundation. I found that too often my foundationless frames would fail in the extractor with the comb letting go, so I switched back to foundation for all except the ones I wanted for comb honey. But your experience may differ, especially if you use some support wire etc.

I have frames with the added strip, but I prefer the Walter Kelley type F. The bees seem to prefer them over plastic foundation. I still have 1 or 2 deep plastic foundation frames that have not been built on in a year. However I also have a bunch that were built. I let my bees tell me what they like.
