Hello all and happy new year. My name is Ashley and I'm located in eastern texas in piney wood country. I'm stark new to bees and looking to get a hive or two. I'm interested in knowing who might have the best starter hives to get? I have my eye on the cardovan Italians from koehen. Am I headed in the right direction? Any suggestions would be great, thanks!
Howdy Neighbor!
I would highly recommend joining East Texas Beekeepers Association. It is located right there in Tyler. I have been with them for 5 years. Our meeting is this coming Thursday evening.
Also, check out our website...etba.info. On the right hand side of the page is the link to our local forum.
Hope this helps.
Mike
Welcome aboard Ashley. Mike (kingfisher) can hook you up with bees...locally. He raises and sells them. I bought 2 nucs from him last year.. they did pretty good given our horrible drought this year. I'd at least contact him about it.
Welcome Ashley! Italian Cordovan are the gentlest when they are light golden. When they get dark they have picked up a dominant gene like Africanized (scutellata) then they are not so nice.
