    Default 8-Mesh Hardware Cloth

Sorry if this is a stupid question (new beek)...

I have a Kelley screened bottom board with an "8 Mesh Hardware Cloth" removable screen. It states how it's useful as part of an IPM against varroa, so I guess mites fit through. Do SHBs also fit through? This would seem like a safe haven for the beetles if they could. Thanks

SHB will pass through. Putting an oil tray under the screened bottom board will give them somewhere to get trapped and drown.

This is a problem then. The bb is solid front and back with two slots in the back, one for the screen, one for a board. The only way to put something under there would be to lift the entire thing up then replace it over an oil tray. (There is about 4-6 inches under the front board that's clear of anything and another inch or two in the back, but not enough space to place something under.) So, how about those sticky sheets? Would this hold SHBs that fall through?

I have a couple Kelly bottom boards. Ours are up about 6" off the ground. You could make a little metal clip on the bottom to hold an oil tray, if yours are off the ground.

They are off the ground, but resting flat on a 16" square paver (thus the space in front and back but not really available underneath). It looked nice when we set it up, but I'm sensing problems now.

Just build some type of open bottomed stand, that will stand on the paver. The tray can hang under the stand.
