Default Combined yesterday. Will it work

OK, so I don't pretend this is a new method, but yesterday I took one queenright hive which is light on stores (currently a deep and a medium) and pulled the inner cover. Directly on top of that I put a queenless hive (currently a deep heavy with stores) and put a screened bottom board between. Both hives are free to come and go through their respective entrances. Basically I have a double-decker hive. Think it will work? Sure could use a queen for the one hive and some more bees and stores for the other... I plan on hoping for the best and seeing if they are simpatico in a couple of weeks. Either that or they'll all be dead.

I would have just used newspaper. You may escape the creation of a laying worker by having the scent of a queen go up into the queenless hive but eventually you'll want to combine them.

    Good luck,

My concern with a straight newspaper combine was for laying workers or virgin queens I might have missed. There were NO eggs in the queenless hive and haven't been for weeks. There are a few sealed drones. To my knowledge, the hive has been queenless for over a month.

I'm thinkin' a bit less than a month. There still may be a new queen....you are right to be careful.
