I attended a bee meeting last night. The old timers suggested using strips of cardboard soaked in tacktik, not sure of the correct spelling. How does this compare to the strength of menthol? Any thoughts?

not to tell youwhat to do but its not a legal method of treatment. i dont recall for sure but tacktic is either fluvalinate or amitraz. fluvalinate is the active ingredient in apistan and amitraz was the active ingredient in the very first strips which have long since been off the market.

i wont go into the long winded preaching but the improper use of the active ingredients is one of the factors in resistance by mites to chemical controls

FYI: menthol is for trachael mites and Tacktic is for varrroa destructor

Tacktic contains 12.5% amitrazYou will have to be very careful about how you dilute the Tacktic to use it. There are many ways that it's applied.
Tacktic is not registered for bees.

It's going to be difficult to compare the two. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Here's some data that we need to read and be aware of :

Please note the amount of pesticide material reported in the USDA testing. There are three materials that are circled in red.
The name on the lab report is A California Beekeeper
