Re: Well this might change things!

I think they’re missing the fact that the gene diversity exists with both the queen and the drones.

Re: Telling the bees - can be therapeutic

    My deepest condolences.
I talk to em all the time, mostly it’s “ just calm down, I gotta do what I gotta do and you having a hissy fit ain’t helping” lol.

    Re: iPhone Microwaves Causes Absconding

I don't own an iphone, but could i ask that someone who does, try the experiment (put an iphone on a hive) then report back, so we can put this matter to rest

Inadvertently I already have. If I...

    Re: Fondant

I didn’t check it out but I heard Sams club has fondant on the shelf in the bakery section.
  7. Re: Using battery w/inverter and ProVap 110: how many colonies can be treated?

I’m going to defer the mechanical calculations to the whiz kids lol. I can tell you to be cautious about using it without a charging source for the battery (after going thru a couple battery chargers...

Re: Think I messed up big time

It’ll be fine. Back in the days of scrounging and charring used equipment, I painted plenty of insides of boxes. Probably never killed a bee doing it.

    Re: Is my Yard OK?

Ya, it’s the trees that count. One black locust tree on a good year can equal a acre of clover yield.

Maybe it’s warmer than the surrounding area water sources.

    Re: Formic Acid

The FA did it. All bees can do is herd them around.
  14. Re: I've Installed Motion Detector Lights, Now My Bees Come Out at Night

I use red leds at night, the brighter area light (rather than the headlamp) does attract bees so it must give off some UV waves

    Re: Frame rest protectors

I put them on with it mind that it saves the wood. But I’ve found that heating the area gently with a torch gets things softened up gets things off without hacking it down.
  16. Re: I've Installed Motion Detector Lights, Now My Bees Come Out at Night

They’ll return to the hive once the sun comes up and they can orientate themselves.

    Re: Power For A Vaporizer

Ya, I used to pull and move machinery, my lungs have probably been subjected to every carcinogen known to man blowing crap apart with a torch. The mask is darn well worth the price and inconvenience.

Re: Last OAV in Northern climates? (Michigan)

Ya, I was in a hive two weeks ago that needed some feed and pulled a couple frames for the tank feeder. It had a grapefruit sized cluster of sealed brood and larvae surrounding it, they’re not...

I extracted frames from deadouts last winter (because of sugar contamination), one of my buds is making mead with it

Welcome! Kind of late to do it but maybe you should consider (post in 101 so someone down there can give you advice) ending the weaker hive’s linage and combining the resources back to the other two...
