Who do you use for a glass supplier?

The regular bee supply guys are getting too expensive for me
and the bottle store doesn't carry queenline jars.

    Re: electric fence

    Thank you,

The only thing I might add is I suspect you have much better sun in NM then I have over here in NY.
That's the only reason I can see to use a larger solar panel and a larger battery....

I'm getting confused on what solar panel to use, I see many out there.

I must have been falling asleep when I asked this question.
It's no where near 10 mi. Actually it's under 1 mile of fence.

I want to go the six strand route so I was totaling up all the lengths...

    Re: Honey Jars

There is no question that washing them is a good idea but like I said the heat warped the plastic bears I and queenlines that I washed

    Honey Jars

I'm embarrassed to ask this question but should I be washing the jars before I fill them?

Up to now I have been running them through the dish washer but I cleaned some plastic
    bears and the...

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

Now I'm fully depressed and totally angry with myself.

Normally I treat with Apivar and have had very good luck with it. This year I ran out of time and only gave them one
    treatment with Oxalic...

Yup same here, when I was going through my emails it felt like every third or forth was from them.

A sign of the times I guess.

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

I want to resurrect this thread.

I put 21 hives to bed for the winter about 3 weeks ago and all looked good. I fed them all with a winter protein patty and left the yard.
I went back today and I...

    Wax Moths

I had a MAJOR wax moth infestation this year in several colonies in an out apiary.
This is the second year I had the problem just not this bad.
Any thoughts on preventative measures? I have never...

    Re: A new ventilated suit

    Thanks for the input.

I knew that asking for a "best" just invites criticism.

I'm starting to hate my cheep canvas suite and was looking for a
ventilated upgrade, that's all. Obviously I could...

    A new ventilated suit

I'm looking to get a new ventilated suit.
    Which one is your choice?
I'm tending toward the Dadant but
I'm open to others. My canvas suit just has
me dripping wet on these 95 deg days.

    Re: Pecan flavored creamed honey

Thanks for the info. Like I said this is way up on my to do list.

Aside from the obvious plain and cinnamon creamed honeys, what other flavors have you tried.

I'm also considering a chili or...

    nectar flow

A real 101 question, I still see lots of pollen coming in but it's starting to feel and look like a
nectar dearth, do they happen together or can you still have a pollen flow with no nectar?

    Re: Pecan flavored creamed honey

    Hi Lloyd,

Can I assume that when you say 60 lbs of honey you mean 60 lbs of honey with 6 lbs of starter in it so it will crystallize?

I had such good luck with my first batch of creamed honey...

    Thank you all.

My suit is getting pretty grungy so it's defiantly time. I'm glad some of you are using regular laundry products
since I have always heard that the odor will attract the bees.

I really am the woorste speller ever.

True, most of the pics of commercial beekeepers in suits don't look like they ever wash them.

I just don't know why this year is worse than last. Perhaps I...
