Re: dearth - take 'em down?

This is an amazing book, both for the insightful conclusions of the research and the book is well-written, too.

    Re: Swarm Traps

    point well taken.

I'm doing some experiments around feeding, so it would be more of a problem with me.

    Re: Swarm Traps

You'll see my thread elsewhere which is a variation on your question. There is some downside to catching a swarm late in the season, being that the swarm is likely to be on the weaker side. So it...

Re: dearth - take 'em down?

I actually had another ulterior motive. I needed the frames from the trap to finish a production hive!
Yes that is a sad state of affairs, but really hard to find the time to cut some wood....

    dearth - take 'em down?

    Hi, all,

I live near Atlanta and this is when the dearth usually starts.

I'm thinking to take down the traps I put up for a couple of reasons: not sure that I want to deal with a late season /...
  8. Re: Skeps - good resources to learn more about em?

Thank you very much for your reply Little John!
  9. Re: Skeps - good resources to learn more about em?

No, I get it. I know about the moveable frame legal thing. Also, I can't see me weaving straw, too time consuming.

I just had some curiosities about the thinking and the design as might...
  10. Skeps - good resources to learn more about em?

    Hi, all,

could anyone recommend some good resources for learning more about skeps?

    thanks,

  11. Re: opinion on restricted ventilation and optimizing queen pheromone

Hey, Rod, most of the paper is observation, not theory. The Q pheromones do affect the mite populations, based on his controlled experiments.
  12. opinion on restricted ventilation and optimizing queen pheromone

    Dear all,

I was about to ask if anyone had an opinion, but then I thought, asking a beekeeper if they had an opinion is like asking a bee if it likes honey....

Has anyone else seen this thesis...

    research on pheromones

    Hi, all,

I'm wanting to do research on a hypothesis I have about honey bee pheromones and I was wondering if y'all could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for the research articles...

experiments in entrance size and shape

    Hi, all,

I'm trying some different things with entrance size and shape this year. Hitherto, I used a slot entrance ala a typical Langstroth entrance.

This year I am drilling a single circular...

Re: different size deep horizontal hives

I'm going with the off topic.
As for nectar sources, I'm in a strange spot, but I suspect it is pretty good. I live in a less affluent suburb of Atlanta, just happen to have a random six acres of...

Re: different size deep horizontal hives

Oh well, too late for me re: mono-body large frames. Does it matter whether foundationless or with foundation? Mine are foundationless.

    Re: Spring harvest (2020)

Well, no replies. That's okay. Posting made me think about it more. I don't know that I would even bother with a spring harvest because of the newness of the colonies. (can't assume that they...
