Re: Show us your honey labels!

How much are you all paying for your labels? I run a small print shop and want to offer them to my bee club at a good price.
  2. Re: One's queenless, the other is getting ready to swarm...what's next?

I did put a frame of eggs in there. I thought I'd check later this afternoon to see if they had started anything yet.

I'm pretty sure I saw something in at least a couple of the cups. I'll...
  3. Re: One's queenless, the other is getting ready to swarm...what's next?

Pretty much what I was thinking. Thanks for the input. The queen cells were still small and not sealed yesterday. When do you think a good time to dive in would be?
  4. One's queenless, the other is getting ready to swarm...what's next?

So I checked my 2 hives last night and found one of them to be queenless. No eggs, brood, or larva. Not sure what happened, this was from a split I did in the spring, and I thought it was going...

    Re: Troubled hive

I spoke with the bee inspector again today. He says to hang tight for another week. I am doubtful because I'm pretty sure that queen has been walking around that hive and not laying for over 5...

    Troubled hive

So I've got 2 hives that I started from packages last year. One has done great, made it through winter and still going strong this year. Even split it into a nuc and found a laying queen yesterday....
  7. Re: Can a colony make it over winter without a queen?

Thanks for the input. It's going to be another warm day here so I guess I'll give them a frame of eggs and larva from my stronger hive. I don't think there is a ton yet, so I'll just start with one...
  8. Can a colony make it over winter without a queen?

I did my first spring hive inspection today. This was my first winter with bees. Two hives both Langstroth's with two deeps each. One hive looked pretty good, nice and gentle with a couple frames of...

    Steam Powered Giraffe - Honeybee

This has absolutely nothing to do with bees other than the title of the song, but it is an interesting watch. I happened across it and watched the whole video then looked for more. I can't say I...

    Re: oil pans

I just made some too. I found jelly roll pans at BigLots for $8 for a 2 pack. They are similar to cookie sheets but a with a little higher sides. My winters are probably worse than yours, but what...

Re: Why does one hive beard and other not

Of my two hives, one is a serious bearder. Both started from packages in April. The non-bearding one went queenless early on, superceded, and is doing well now. The bearding one went gangbusters...

    Re: too much bearding?

I've been worried about mine too...but it's HOT and HUMID here! Last weekend I saw quite a few SHB during inspection, but my beetle jails were full. I cleaned them out and am hoping for the best....

Re: Please post pics of your hive stands!!

They not the prettiest thing as they are made out of scrap that I had laying around, but they are sturdy and functional. I spaced the two inside cross pieces so that frames could be set between them...

Re: New beekeeper looking for comments...

I checked again yesterday and things seem to be working themselves out! I was unable to spot any queen, but I saw a lot of eggs in the cells. I'm guessing it's a little harder to spot the young...

    Queenless hive...what's next?

So I need a little guidance...

I'm a new beek with two lang hives installed almost 6 weeks ago. Both started out well. A couple weeks ago, in one of the hives, I noticed a few drone cells and...

Re: New beekeeper looking for comments...

Well...I think I may be queenless. When I checked the hives on Friday, I couldn't find the queen (although I don't know how good I am at it.), and I couldn't see any eggs, or larva. On the other...
  21. Re: Emergency queen cells and supercedure cells help!!

Same thing here. I installed 2 hives a month ago. One hive is doing well, plenty of eggs, larva, capped brood. The second hive on the other hand...was doing well until last week when I noticed a...

Re: New beekeeper looking for comments...

Thanks everyone...I figured I was worrying a bit too much. It's taking a lot of restraint, but I'm only getting into the hives once a week...other than checking the syrup.

    This beekeeping stuff...
