Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

I've been way too busy since school started back up. We managed to get up to 20, but have lost a few since then. I broke down and did an oav treatment. The queens that I received from Fat Bee Man...

    Re: oa dribble freqency

What mix did you use? Could it have been that the treatment came to late?

I'm looking to use the mix listed on scientific beekeeping.

    oa dribble freqency

I find myself looking to dribble OA. I've ready that the dribble method kills for three days. In my area we barely get a brood free time, if any. What is the best frequency for dribble? Will...

I found the part number on sears, but it isn't in stock. Any way to rig it? I have the ball and spring. The plastic is what is missing.

Re: WHAT TO DO, IN NEED OF HELP

It moths got your hive, it was probably weak from some other issue. Strong hives keep them out. Next time freeze all effected frames.

Re: Found an open air hive today.

Tree cavities is a growing problem in this area too. Many species use them, but people tend to cut the tree down when it gets a cavity. I know two people that did so this year and both trees had...

    Re: Richinbama 2018-2019 beekeeping quest

Mine aren't using the syrup like I'd expect. There seems to be a trickle of nectar coming in. Lots of pollen all summer. I went into winter with 7 last year, one of which I didn't think would make...

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

Sometimes it is good to be wrong. All but one queen made it back. I have reached my hive number goal and many of them are very strong. Once again we are running short on comb. Temps are still...
  14. Re: What to do with all the supers full of sugar syrup

ditto JW. Also, I don't like to harvest honey off a hive that syrup on them because the bees can and do move the sugar around. When I harvest honey, I want it to be pure honey, not adulterated.
  15. Re: Florida beekeeper claims someone poisoned, killed nearly 7 million of his honeybe

One of our local guys suspects the same thing, but he is a small scale hobbyist. I suspect it happens more than we know.

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

That is great that the nuc has a queen. Dragon flies are beautiful, but I now feel a sense of disappointment when seeing them and knowing queen rearing is at an end.

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

At this point of the year, I suspect the dragonflies are snacking on mating queens down here. I had thought I got many of the splits in early enough, but I no longer think that. Looks like May will...

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

It looks like my late June-July splits are all failing to return mated queens. I'm about to give up and start recombining.

    Re: Honey Tank Score!

Are you referring to the stainless steel pot? If so, it doesn't look like it can be sealed air-tight, which could cause problems with the humidity level of the honey and with contaminants.

Re: Mated queen taking 4 weeks to lay?

Although this question doesn't require location, you may want to add it to your information and be a bit more specific, such as state. There are many East Bay areas in the country. ;)

Re: Small Hive Beetle Grease Experiences

    Re: Richinbama 2018 beekeeping quest

Rich, have you tried putting a vent on the top box? It has helped mine a lot. I made them from 2x4s cut into 3/4" strips. The additional highth doesn't seem to cause an issue. Sorry to hear about...
