Re: Costco 100% Raw unfiltered honey for $2.98 lb

Sell on taste, not price. It will be our job to inform and educate the consumer on the difference between the two products. It is our fault that things have gotten this far out of line.

Re: How early can I pull the supers?

I believe Bee Arthor is saying that it WILL be slimed when the SHB eggs hatch in the future.

  3. Re: Florida beekeeper claims someone poisoned, killed nearly 7 million of his honeybe

Don't underestimate the long term effects of Roundup on the bees gut flora, and the resulting sub lethal effects. It may not immediately kill a bee, but it does effect the hive as a whole. I...

    Re: Comb Honey Foundation

I believe the reason for "thin surplus" foundation is to improve the mouth feel of comb honey. It reduces the the percentage of wax you are eating.

    The choice is yours.

    Re: Dadant extractor issue.

If it is getting worse, with no apparent wear, Mike is probably right. Look for a loose set screw.

My-smokepole - I am not so sure. They may be much more aggressive on their future plans. We went there to purchase foundation, and had to mix and match to get 2000 sheets.

Beltsville Maryland is the big National lab. One of the best State research labs is UN-Lincoln. Judy Wu-Smart has a good practical group, stuff you can use.

Not much different here---- for now. Plants and bees WHERE 2 weeks behind. Rain continues, but it is HOT and humid now. The scale hive had gained a lb a day the last half of May, Flat the first...

Re: My first two hives of 10,000 have been ordered :)

I had some yard work to do near one of the swarm hives( a swarm that landed in empty equipment). Had nearly a dozen (one at a time) "buzzers" that keep flying around my face. Killed all of them, and...

Give them time to "Make it Right". You can not stay in business for 150 years by cheating the customer.

Re: low honey production in northern Illinois.

Bees make honey, empty boxes do not. It is likely your hived swarmed if you are not filling both boxes with bees by now. We run a single deep brood chamber, with most hives starting to fill two or...

Be aware that the latest studies point to sub-lethal effects of herbicides on bees. It does not kill the bees, but effects the larvae and gut flora enough to negatively effect the hive. I might...

The plants where 2 weeks behind. Bees follow the plants. Don't expect the flood gates to open until you see White Sweet Clover, AND you have bees in your hive up to chest high.
