    Re: Comb Honey Foundation

My-smokepole - I am not so sure. They may be much more aggressive on their future plans. We went there to purchase foundation, and had to mix and match to get 2000 sheets.

Check the cardboard burst test label printed on the bottom of the box. It will show the place where the corogated cardboard was manufactured, and is USSUALLY near where the product in it is...

We are drying out, was TOO wet. White Sweet Clover to start soon, Basswood (big leaf) going now. Bees look good. It is now or never.

  6. Re: Looking for Bee research labs and institutions

Beltsville Maryland is the big National lab. One of the best State research labs is UN-Lincoln. Judy Wu-Smart has a good practical group, stuff you can use.

    Re: Cold summer

Not much different here---- for now. Plants and bees WHERE 2 weeks behind. Rain continues, but it is HOT and humid now. The scale hive had gained a lb a day the last half of May, Flat the first...

Re: Quaility and Service Issues at Dadant

I was in my Local Dadant branch and spoke with the manager today. He is a "Hamilton" boy, and knows Gabe. I strongly suggested that Gabe come on the site and join us in this discussion.

Re: My first two hives of 10,000 have been ordered :)

I had some yard work to do near one of the swarm hives( a swarm that landed in empty equipment). Had nearly a dozen (one at a time) "buzzers" that keep flying around my face. Killed all of them, and...

Give them time to "Make it Right". You can not stay in business for 150 years by cheating the customer.

Re: low honey production in northern Illinois.

Bees make honey, empty boxes do not. It is likely your hived swarmed if you are not filling both boxes with bees by now. We run a single deep brood chamber, with most hives starting to fill two or...

    Re: Probably over thinking this.

Be aware that the latest studies point to sub-lethal effects of herbicides on bees. It does not kill the bees, but effects the larvae and gut flora enough to negatively effect the hive. I might...
  13. Re: Basswood trees start blooming in northern Illinois

We are due for a good Linden (Basswood) flow. It has been 5 years?

The plants where 2 weeks behind. Bees follow the plants. Don't expect the flood gates to open until you see White Sweet Clover, AND you have bees in your hive up to chest high.

    Re: Question about telescoping cover

Cover with what you want. Can you beat Galvanized steel ?? We recycle the metal with new wood. The most common year being recycled is 1937.

These 4 swarms in the last 10 days are at my house in a suburban area. I have one Cordovan nuc at my house, shake out package bees and an itinerant Koehnan Queen that was loose on the...

Re: My first two hives of 10,000 have been ordered :)

Grey Goose, since this is a Commercial forum, I will reply. I do NOT want any swarms, or their drones. If I requeen, I am still stuck with their drones. If I am trying to steer my gene pool away...

I have some troubles with Truesource. They speak of "Chinese" honey, which is NOT honey by our definitions. If they spoke of Chinese High Fructose Rice Syrup, I would be alot happier. Just because...
  20. Re: Most of my Bees are Gone 1 Month After Package Install

Without the roughly two week check, there is little that can be accurately determined. You checked to see if the queen was released. That was good. The next check is if she is laying. If not, brood...

Bernard - I now understand our difference of opinions on using foundation. I will inquire as to the source of beeswax from my suppliers.

  24. Re: what size filter do you use to strain your honey?

Or do not strain at all. Fill the tank, wait 3 days. But it sure is a PITA to fill an 8 Oz. jar from a 3" valve.
