Re: Beet versus Cane Sugar - Difference?

JW, I tend to agree with you on this. I can't find any literature post 1910 that talks about dangers of beet suger, and then they are talking about partially refined beet sugar. Best I can tell this...

    Re: Trying Michael Palmer's way

    Apologies to the OP.

I read '...patties and terramycin' as one thing...on rereading I would assume the OP meant feeding a protein patty, and applying TM according the the label.

    Re: Trying Michael Palmer's way

Treating according to label directions is different than using in a grease pattie.

I can certainly imagine operations where using TM twice a year is required....maybe even places where that is...

    Re: Trying Michael Palmer's way

....that video (from Keith Delaplane) is from 1993...practices have changed.

The use of TM in grease patties (extender patties) are largely viewed as being a big accelerator for resistant...

Cam, your 'HO' (humble opinion) that label instructions are guidance and not law may be an opinion, it may be humble, but it is factually untrue. The label is the law....and when others (farmers,...

When farmers and homeowners use pesticides contrary to the label, beekeepers complain.

Whem beekeepers use pesticides contrary to label, beekeepers call them......beekeepers?

    Re: varroa

Larry, what does the OA label say about applying OAV in the middle of the summer? My recollection of the label I read is that it is offline (illegal) use.

I was recently thumbing through the Laidlaw and Page queenrearing book...they have a whole section on direct introduction.

I've dredged a laying queen in honey and done a successful direct...

    Re: Graft rejection from genetics?

I guess I don't understand why it takes less time to use a graft less system than grafting.

    1. Find queen, catch her, put her in laying cage.
    2. Release her when eggs are in cells (open hive...

Re: Swarm control, have we been doing it wrong?

Whether or not something is added to the mix, most of the work of 'selection' is a subtractive process, not an additive one.

    Re: keeping races pure

KC, one problem with the logic you post above is that when dealing with 'inbred lines' (fixed traits...probably more inbred than a 'pure race', but the same idea), the F1 is the goal. Selecting from...

I think it is the most successful publicly funded bee breeding initiative ever. It was designed to turn around the failing Brazilian honey industry, and it did.
