Re: Is this wax moth larvae?

Genuscastor, I think I just read a post about you being attacked going into your hives. Reading this post makes me think both of your colonies might be in trouble.

    Re: Cheap Easy Honey Extracting

Unless you are looking for a DIY project which I was not, I spent $139.00 for a cheap S.S. hand crank extractor from Amazon that works great for me.

    Re: SHB & Package Bees

side question - Why would any small, just a few hives, beekeepers be shaking packages in?

    Re: Ebay extractors under $200?

I would have loved to buy a Maxant but budget and reality come first. with just a couple of hive I went with the cheap import and it does the job. nothing fancy but it works.

    Rain, Rain, Rain
Weeks ago I found that my single hive was queenless. A friend gave me a frame with two queen cells. Before the monsoons came I found the colony queenright and getting crowded. Asked...

    Looking good in Greenville SC

We had a few weeks with some issues to be queen right but it seems to be paying off. New queen from inserted frame with two queen cells is laying well now. Barely keeping up with adding boxes and...
  12. Re: DON'T Smoke 'um if you got 'um OR How I Ditched My Smoker

    "stick a roofing nail"
Sounds good but are the nails aluminum or galvanized? I believe galvanized will off gas when heated?
  13. Re: Mentoring - Everyone needs it or should offer it

Update: Here is a great example of the support originally posted about here.
Did an inspection Saturday afternoon. CRAP! Very noisy going in. Packing in nectar and pollen but no new comb being...
  14. Mentoring - Everyone needs it or should offer it

I am fortunate that a bee class my wife and I had taken a few years ago worked out the way it did. The instructors, a 3rd generation Master Beekeeper and a Journeyman Beekeeper not only presented a...

    Re: Inspection Yesterday

That was the plan yesterday going into the hive but it's wait and see now. If I don't split and don't swarm I'll look for a call to pick up a swarm hopefully. No plan to spend $$$ on bees this...

    Inspection Yesterday

We have been having a stellar season start here in the South. Being residential I have to keep it small. Lost one of two hives over the winter but the remaining is booming. Quick checks on several...

    Re: Jacket vs suit

Always a light full suit. Never without face protection. Like my mentor, 3rd generation master beekeeper, says: you only have two eyes.

Re: neighbor worried about bees in his garden

Backed my truck into the garage and moved them through the house to the fenced back yard. they have been there 4+ months with the neighbors all asking when we plan to bring the bees home:)
  24. Re: What keeps honey from getting runny in lotions?

HMMM. I must have missed the part about stealing a business formula. Sounds more like a sales pitch rant than a beekeeper helping a beekeeper. JMHO
