    Re: bees under hive?

That is a good point. But here it is so darn hot ! Any hives without SBB just look miserable. I've kept using them for for reason.

Re: Yellow Jacket Hell (Western Washington)

I hate Yellow Jackets and the only success I have had is with traps.

Re: swarm commander vs ultra breeze bee suit

I love my Ultra Breeze suit that I bought several years ago. I hated the price but I think the quality will pay off in the long run. I'm sure the one you mentioned is imported. That doesn't mean...

Re: Why is shipping not common anymore?

I agree the postal service is a joke in regard to priority. While they do "insure" bees - good luck getting a claim filed in a timely matter. I mailed a queen to a guy in Texas. It went to Miami...
  8. Re: Identification of Candidate Agents Active against N. ceranae Infection in Honey B

My questions are in regard to using Fumagilin as a drench. I know a couple of the commercial beekeepers in the southern region are doing go and they credit its use for an increase in bee health. I...

Re: Not clear why colony died

I would lean toward varroa and/or varroa related viruses. You did a good inspection job . Hang in there - you are learning.

    Re: OA Vaporization during summer

Well I have the vaporizer and the OA. If it ever stops this ice and snow, I think I'll do a test run and see how long it takes the OA to vaporize. Assuming that is ok as long as I stay far away and...

    Re: OA Vaporization during summer

Always better to be safe than sorry. I agree that some people will have problems mostly due to their carelessness - some people are stupid. I plan to use the smoker to stay out of the fumes as much...

    Re: OA Vaporization during summer

Thank you all. Ideally, I would like to do nothing and let the bees enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, varroa will not allow that so I need to pick the lesser of evils. Gonna try OA this summer, I...

    OA and brood

Obviously many of you use OA Vaporization throughout the year even when there is brood. However, I keep reading studies that say it harms brood. Am I missing something ?

    Thanks, Charlotte

    OA Vaporization during summer

I understand vaporizing OA will only kill the phoretic mites and is most beneficial during a time of no or little brood.
It can be used in cooler weather than some of the other treatments.

    My...

    Re: Hive Beetles

You have to keep on top of Hive Beetles here in SC. They can be devastating. Most of the beeks that I know do not use checkmite. They use a variety of beetle traps - some work, some don't, some...

I'm in upstate SC and run 1 1/2. Meaning 1 deep and 1 shallow. It fits my management system well.

Bees Buzzing Outside Light at night ??

I have an outside light between my bee yard and barn ( the kind you buy and put up on a pole yourself). I would guess it is about 20 ft from the hives and not very tall. It has been there for about...

    Re: Treating new bee packages

hmmm, I've always thought package bees should have fewer mites than purchasing a nuc or full hive with brood involved. I've never used OA, it sounds interesting.

    Re: SC Beekeeping Blues

Well folks, it is cold up here in the NW part of SC too. Got off to a good start with dandelion, henbit, red maple. Now the maple is all bloomed out and it is too cold to fly. I have a few new...
