Re: Set It and Forget It?

No attack here, but one difference is the probability of unmanaged bees swarming, contaminating, dying, mite bombing, etc. (okay that was more than one), are high. A lot happens when you are gone in...

    Re: bee removal help needed

Yes, lights off. Is the box sealed? Are you trying to attract the stragglers in the box? As soon as sun comes in that window, if the box is not sealed, your going to have flying bees in that...

    Re: Check out this nuc

This should have been your dads first red flag, but I do want to go out of town for three years:D

Re: Set It and Forget It?

Kind of like mites & bears:eek: What about your swarms going on vacation & inhabiting the home? It would be to far for most to manage & it doesnít read like you really want to either.

Re: # Days to capped brood

I donít know the fastest, because I usually stay out, after directly releasing her:D Bee math gives & takes a day, but assuming she was released the day you put her in (unlikely depending on the...
  7. Re: Egg to Larva to Queen or Worker

Which is basically three/four days. IMO, A question is never stupid because by its nature someone is asking it for an answer;) I am sure a queen can be attempted to be made after three days, but the...

    Re: Bee capture question

They were removed and sprayed:scratch: Obviously someone didnít remove the old wax & fill the cavity. Great call on ditching the old comb., did you remove it?
  9. Re: First time beekeeping. A month in. A couple of questions.

Nice of them;), laying worker with a queen? That is a first for me:D

    Re: Missed By Inches

Trust you reduced that entrance? Why all the moves?, when you can just move them once?
  11. Re: Robbing from new split before new queen emerges

Yes, it will most likely be a problem, especially if it is warm. Reduce the entrance to a bee width, or make or buy a robber screen?

    Re: Quick swarm poll

Capture them at sunrise or sunset and introduced them to the rest?
  13. Re: My first two hives of 10,000 have been ordered :)

For many reasons:D, I am not sure you should have sold nucleus, if you are trying to get pallets of bees. If you had more money how would you spend it on the operation?

    Re: Quick swarm poll

I would definitely knocked them into a box, or swarm bucket, and not wait to see what they do. What if the decide to move into the shed structure? How did they get in the shed? Opened door or is...
  15. Re: First time beekeeping. A month in. A couple of questions.

Queen is alive & spotted, same one from the beginning?, or perhaps they superseded her? Pictures of larvae.., I would consider staying out of the hive for a little while and let them cap the larvae....
  16. Re: Back Pain? My personal public service announcement....

Inject some bee venom in that needle:D
  17. Re: How far to put claimed swarm from swarm trap

Definitely, transfer the swarm, or move the caught swarm box & set up another. Just make sure the cast members are not coming from your mother hives:eek:

Re: What Happened to these bees

I am with AHudd, to me it appears that the bees “look wet/greasy”. Most likely associated with tracking something poisonous into the hive, with enough quantities for their demise;(

    Re: grafting

If you wanted to put them on top of a queen right hive, look into the cloak board method. It has a queen excluder & slide to separate the pheromones..,

    Re: grafting

:D If the cubs are the graft frame, and inserted to a queen right hive, how would the cubs grow?

    Re: Well that was fast.

Not may, but it is to late if there was 5 cells. How far along were the cells?
  22. Re: Anyone seen swarm return to hive?

Agreed, it will be on the move the next day. If you can't keep up with them, maybe break them down, don't just let them produce swarm after swarm. It is not good PR:eek:
  23. Re: Can Anyone Tell Me What is Happening?

My ideas are they are hot & quickly out growing the one deep. Also known as bearding. Hopefully they are not in swarm prep. Do you have more equipment to add before they swarm?

Re: Blame it on the weather?

6-8 supersedure cells:scratch: Have they filled out the other five frames? Why are you guys cutting the cells and then adding a swarm to the box of what was left? Where did the others go?

    Re: Missed By Inches

More like a transfer;) Hopcar, if you didn't have frames in the box, for me it is about the same time line if I did. Around two weeks, but a lot depends on the size of the swarm, and if no frames, I...
