  1. Re: Swarm from Cable box yesterday. Queen not found.

Tomorrow will be three days that they have been pinned up. I think they need to get out and forage and by then I hope they will orient to their new home.
  2. Re: Swarm from Cable box yesterday. Queen not found.

Very small amount (maybe 10 square inches total) of new comb and it had nectar. Think I should open them up on the third day and see how it goes?
  3. Re: Swarm from Cable box yesterday. Queen not found.

I don't have any eggs or open brood to donate at the moment. There was nothing but a small amount of nectar and a bunch of empty comb. I am hoping by leaving them locked up for 2 days will help them...

Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

3/27/2017 in Cypress, Texas. A swarm moved into a cable box which was one of the larger ones, about 10 inch. Must have been a hive there in the past as there was old comb in the cover but the only...
  5. Swarm from Cable box yesterday. Queen not found.

I picked up a semi swarm inside of a cable box yesterday. If you have ever done one of these you know that they are a pain because pulling up the cover normally results in a lot of broken comb and...

    Re: Newbee question

I started last year and thought about taking a class before starting. I had the same problem as you with timing so I just bought enough equipment for 2 hives, ( 4 deeps & medium's and 2 telescoping...

    Re: Slovenian Beekeeping Museum

Great post. I would really like to go there one day. I'm sure it is a beautiful place. The hive fronts and some of the hives made to look like houses and churches are very interesting also.
  8. Re: when does main flow hit in Houston TX area?

    Shane,
I am in Cypress and did some swarm removals last year in March and April and still was able to take some honey off. Sorry but need to pay a lot more attention this year when the main flow...

    Re: Bee Swarm Keeper

Maybe this is a dumb question but what about drones while this thing is on the hive?

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

Jimmyzshack, I was thinking about setting out a swarm trap this weekend too. 3 weeks ago mine were bringing in pollen form the cedar I think. Going to be in Houma next week visiting Hose Source which...
  11. Re: Double Deep setup with top Deep full of capped honey

I am 11 miles East of Crockett. I live in Cypress and try to go out there every 2 weeks. Think I will do that and wait to split a little later.
    Thanks,

    Re: Bees bringing in Pollen

Mine were bringing in yellow pollen last weekend when I checked in on them. Almost every bee coming in was loaded!
  13. Re: Double Deep setup with top Deep full of capped honey

My lower brood chamber is full of bees. Since I don't have a mated queen to install into the split I was going to wait. Do you think if I did a split right now she would be mated?
    Or are you saying...
  14. Re: Double Deep setup with top Deep full of capped honey

I may try a walk away split when the tallow starts and checker board both top and bottom deeps. Thanks for the ideas.
  15. Double Deep setup with top Deep full of capped honey

I have a hive out at the farm in the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas that is doing great and bringing in a lot of yellow pollen right now. This was a nice weekend, 70's and I pulled the top to check...

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

My last remaining hive out of the 2 started in 2016 is working hard. They are bringing in a ton of yellow pollen but I don't know what it's from. Here in the Piney Woods of East Texas everything...

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

Alex, didn't see that thread but will try to search for it. Alright, going back in hive 2 and grab some frames and get the queen caged and installed. Let's see what happens. BTW, hive 2 is quiet...

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

Sakhoney, didn't think of that. I was thinking to place the queen I caught into hive # 2 this evening if it is still loud. Think that is a good idea or should I grab a couple of frames of brood and a...

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

Update to my bees. Went out early this morning and started going through hive #1. Real worried I am going to loose both hives so I wanted to try to find the problem. Top deep is full of capped honey....

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

I was not feeding as they both have a full deep of capped honey and a lot of nectar stored in medium above brood. If they did spray behind me and the bees picked up a chemical in the water that could...

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

I have looked at several bees under microscope this morning and see nothing that jumps out at me as peculiar. About 10 - 20% have tongues sticking out and the rest have the tongue tucked in under...

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

So I went out to check this morning and there are at least 100 plus more dead and many walking around on the ground in front of the hive. At this rate I wont have any bees left after the weekend....

Re: Pound of dead bees in front of each hive!

The boxes are double coated with an Agri product that is specifically made for bee hives. I used a roller. I didn't notice a smell but I don't have the best sniffer.
