Jennifer Berry at UGA participated in a study on this method last year. When I talked with her earlier this year, she said they found it to be ineffective, especially in humid climates.
Sourwood started blooming in the Mountain Rest area last week.
Each time I extract, I save a 2 oz bear. Here's what I've gotten since 2015, left to right.

Is there any state guidance on labelling and selling specific honey, like sourwood? Other states like NC have guidance, but I haven't found any for SC.
Had a 4th swarm move into an empty hive at my house this weekend, still Westminster, SC.
Thanks! Yesterday I had a fourth swarm this spring move into an empty hive. Been a weird year so far.
In less than two weeks this swarm filled up the two additional mediums I put on to give them room. Added a 4th medium yesterday.
This was the 3rd one to do so this year
I had this large swarm move into an empty hive yesterday. I walked by the hives around 5, and when I came back by at 5:20 this swarm was moving in. Ended up needing a deep and 3 mediums until they...
Went out to take care of the chickens and found this as I came back in. Makes swarm #3 that has moved into empty hives. Westminster (29693)

Had another swarm move into an empty hive in Westminster (29693).
2 to 2-1/2 gallons from a shallow, 3.5 to 4 gallons from a medium. Assuming all the frames are packed full.
Caught a knee high swarm on a bush right next to Tillman Hall on the Clemson campus.
Blackberry is starting to bloom in northwest SC. Holly is also a source that is blooming now.
I did this last year and all of the swarms out of my hives landed where I put the oil.
Is the branch they are on pretty big? If so, can you throw a rope over it and pull a box up to them? Add a frame of brood to help.
Had a small swarm move into an empty hive. Found it Friday, 4/8. In Westminster, 29693.
Caught 3 swarms, 2 on 3/23, 1 on 3/29.
The first 2 were in Seneca, 29678, the last one in Anderson.

They've worked fine for me here in SC. Just used them a couple weeks ago with mid 90's highs, and mid to upper 60's lows. Had a dozen or so bees left in each super after 1 day.
Our association has been getting it from the lower part of the state for $0.40/lb after shipping cost.
Nice batch jwcarlson. I've been rotating in a frame or two of mixed brood (mostly capped though) each week. Haven't run in to a laying worker problem yet, but I did miss a queen cell last time....
Looks good so far grozzie. I just grafted another 10 today. Found one of my new queens today also.
