Been gone from the site years.... Life throws it's curves.
Been playing with bee equipment again.
Hi to all those I know, and those I don't.
Hi Jim......... been lots of changes. Still have the orchard but will be selling this
coming spring. Retirement (semi) is on the horizon. Still love bees and trees.
It's on my list for a holiday replacement for our family next year. Feats of strength, airing of grievances, the full Monte.
Welcome........ cold weather beekeeping is challenging to be sure.
Since it's already hived your options are more limited. They
will likely build comb down from the shallows first. Once that
is done they'll move outward.
After they've settled in and are...
Welcome!! And I second the referral to Michael's page. He's
easily one of the most knowledgeable beekeepers I've run across.
Save your money, they are very unreliable. Traps work, tedious, but they
work.
If the move is less than a couple miles, place a leaved branch
over the entrance so the bees have to negotiate to get around
it. This will trigger them to go into "reorientation", over a couple...
Welcome neighbor........ Born and raised in Minnesota.... Live in
North Dakota but moving back to Minn within 2 years.
What queens are you getting? If Italian, I'd requeen at some point
this...
You a beekeeper John?? How many colonies??
Welcome, your in a nice area for bees if memory serves me. You're in
the pines??
Bacon does bring out the best in us.......
Welcome..... I agree with the others. Save the Nuc boxes, you'll need them
down the road. Build or buy a couple 10 frame deeps and put them on one
of them. 3# package is a lot for a 4 frame nuc....
I've had good success melting old brood comb at super low heat and
mixing in lemon grass oil when cooling and just getting real thick. I
paint it on the interior of older 5 frame Nuc boxes.........
Battled moles for literally years.
Moles are carnivores and turn their noses up to grain, peanuts, etc.
I've tried poison fake earthworms, every repellent known to man, exhaust
from a vehicle,...
Yes, apparently you have to pay $10/month or $50/year to post now.
Bummer
I was unable to log in via my phone last night. I was able to with the old
version. The phone runs WebOS system.
Like anything new it will take some time to absorb. Good work Barry. One thing
I enjoyed (and it's probably here somewhere) was the CP? section where you
could see subscribed threads.
I appreciate the recommendation.
We're not in a major hurry, and funds won't allow for
anything but doing it ourselves.
Excellent info!! Thanks. Lots to learn and pack
into my small brain cavity.;)
Carboard Nucs leak easily.... especially stacked
and warm.
Duct tape all corners and the lid down. Duct
tape the plastic plug too as they can pop out.
They will figure it out, and bee ready for another
super! Canola/Rape can get you some honey fast,
but it sugars very quickly...
knowledge of building the site,
Beginner to say the least, but willing to learn.
Do you want a shopping cart
Yes for sure
Looking for recommendations for web site providers.
Presently we are playing with Squarespace and it's OK.
But honestly I am way out of my element.
What are some providers you folks are using?...
Bees can starve in a hurry, and they are very
reluctant to come off brood for food even when
it's only inches away.
Sorry to hear this.
