    Re: Immigration, bee style.

If you will notice, if you can, Tailgater is virtually none existent. No conversations going on there. Maybe because those who can go there have left Beesource for Forums where they can more easily...

    Re: Immigration, bee style.

Comparing what humans do with what honey bees may be interesting but a few things should be considered, Geographic Borders are artificial, created by humans. And bees tolerate the presence of many...
  8. Re: Honey Bees Crossing North America- Call the 'Whitemans Fly' by Native Americans

I can't site a source, only my memory, that during the times of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson they both wrote of this idea that "white man's flies preceded the European settlers arrival".

  10. Re: any thoughts re: opening/treating a hive in cold weather?

In preparing pallets of hives for transport I have taken honey off of hives with six inches of snow on the ground and more falling. You should have seen the bees clustered on top of my head and on my...

Re: pulling honey ideas looking for feed back

The rack and chute that I saw reminded me of a tubular steel set of legs like a tall tv tray stand with one set of legs taller than the other so when you set the super of honey on it the super was at...

Re: pulling honey ideas looking for feed back

If there is a flow on, there is no robbing. If there is robbing, there isn't a flow on. Plenty of robbing occurs taking honey off with fume boards if there isn't at least a mild flow on.

Re: pulling honey ideas looking for feed back

If you are pulling honey during a nectar flow you can simply stand the supers on end in the yard and by the time you have the last supers off of the hives most of the bees will have left the supers...

Re: Is individual bee suicide normal in winter?

FarmerDave, bees are dying all the time and they usually do it away from the hive. If you kept your hives on a parking lot you would see all of the dead bees that you don't see dead in the grass in...

    Re: American Foulbrood

Here in NY there hardly is any Apiary Inspection, so knowing how any practice has affected AFB is hard to determine. As far as what most commercial outfits do, I have no reason to think that they...

As far as an organic method of AFB control I would say visual inspection of brood combs and not buying used equipment...
