I'm still new so take this for what its worth but every time I have made a split it has always taken a week longer that the bee math said it would to see eggs. Even got worried enough one time to...

Re: Such an animal as a "practice swarm"?!

I had a hive do this last year. They appeared to swarm one day but by that evening the numbers were the same. The next day they swarmed for real. They actually swarmed 4 times in 5 days. Caught...

    Re: Eggs in queen cups

    Just to update this thread,

I went back in and cut out all the queen cells.

I waited a week and went back in. There were lots of queen cells again. Cut all those out.

Re: How important is hive body orientation?

Thanks Nancy. I was hoping I didn't cause them too much grief. I think at this point I will just let it be. I'll mark everything so it doesn't happen again.

How important is hive body orientation?

I think I may have put 2 of the hive bodies on in the opposite direction I took them off today while inspecting the colony. Do I need to go back and turn them around or does it really matter?

    Re: Eggs in queen cups

Will this work without having any drawn comb to give them? This is my second season keeping bees and I don't have any drawn comb, only foundation.

    Re: Eggs in queen cups

I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to split that colony since it is my smallest one but I guess they have already decided that for me. Thanks for all the responses. I guess I will split them...

    Eggs in queen cups

During a hive inspection today I found queen cups with fresh eggs in them. Is it too late to stop them from swarming? How long do I have before I need to split them?

The colony is an 8 frame...

    Re: 2017 YTD Sting Count

Didn't really keep count, maybe a dozen? My bees have been very patient with me. I started the year wearing a full suit but quickly graduated to only wearing a veil. Except for one time when they...

    Re: OAV Treatment Problem

There is definitely vapor all throughout the hive.

I do spread it around and lightly pack it down.

It does seem to be that some of the vapor is crystallizing on the screen and then...

It is certainly looking like that is the problem. I was really hoping I could use it under the screen and not have to pull out the entrance reducer every time. I wonder if I could measure how much...

    Re: OAV Treatment Problem

I wondered if this might be the case but it seems strange that it would only do it some of the time.
