    Re: Saskatraz....any feedback?

Mine did fine. Didn't live any better, or die any worse than my mutt queened hives. They may be a little more docile than "my" bees. They are building up no faster, nor any slower than my mutts. ...

    Re: Saskatraz vs. overwintered nucs

    I've got both.

If I was starting over, I'd go with over wintered nucs from a reputable source. "Reputable" source means someone that you can trust to sell you a nuc that was started last year...

Re: Bees with red dot on head

I'll have to try and get a good enough photo to post. Ruth what you posted looks rust colored on my computer. What I'm seeing looks like a pinpoint spot of bright red lipstick, in a perfect circle,...

Re: Bees with red dot on head

It very well may be henbit or purple dead nettle, but I don't know ever really recall seeing it before and if I have, certainly not to this extent. I also didn't see any red pollen on any pollen...

Bees with red dot on head

I have 100's of bees with a single bright red dot between their eyes. I'm guessing that it's probably pollen, but I'm curious as to what type and why the dot? Very symmetrical, round, shiny dot......

Re: Lost hives to storm damage

    Update

I got all the hives checked this weekend. Only lost 3 of the 14. One of them was a dink and the other 2 got cold enough and wet enough that almost all the capped brood to apparently be...

    Re: Burning pasture around hives

Nope it won't hurt them. The reason I know? I once caught a field of 12" deep dormant bermuda grass on fire while lighting my smoker. Of course it was a day that had a steady 10 mph wind blowing. ...

Re: Lost hives to storm damage

These are the hives right behind my house, all of them except two were blown over. The top blew off of the two that stayed upright, so they may not be much better off than the others.

Re: Lost hives to storm damage

Thanks Nancy. I do have the resources for them to make queens if they are queenless. I didn't do an inpection on any of the hives yesterday, so I don't know if we have drones hatched out yet but...

    Lost hives to storm damage

Re: Wow- one of my hives has gotten red hot

Re: Wow- one of my hives has gotten red hot

    "Repulsed" LOL

It's a bee hive, not someones grandmother. Hot hives get requeened here. I've had to split them up and make them hopelessly queenless to successfully do that. Hot hives want to...
