Re: First inspection on my TBH

It looks like they are bringing in a little more pollen today. When I counted before I had just rained so that might have effected the pollen available too. It's also a nicer day today, warmer and...

Re: First inspection on my TBH

I checked on the hive again today and took a video but it was pretty bad quality since I was by myself. I snapped some stills from the video though. It looks like the cells are just over 5mm, but I...

Re: First inspection on my TBH

I checked on the hive again today. Things are going well as far as I can tell. They have not used much food from the feeders but are bringing in a lot of pollen.

    First inspection on my TBH

I installed my bees last Thursday and cracked open the hive for the first time today. There was not a lot of activity at all outside. I was a little nervous after reading all weekend about people...

    Re: A question about spacers

We built our hive using Jon Peters' plans we found on the internet. We did make some changes. We made the top bars 1 3/8 wide on Wes Crowder's advise and we changed the entrances from the three...

Re: To label or not to label?

I like the idea of using a pencil. Then if I want to put different info on bars over the years I can always change it.

To label or not to label?

My TBH is built and waiting to go out in the yard. I know some people label or mark their bars in various ways. I'm debating whether or not I should employ this method in my beekeeping. I read a...
  12. Re: has anyone seen this apisolis smoker gadget? I got an advertisement on FB for it.

Something similar to a vaporizer would be a nebulizer. It puts out a cool cloud of very fine particles. I donít know what you would put in it to have a calming effect on bees though. The ultra sonic...

Re: Do you need a swarm box?

I have some wax that someone local gave me to make soap and lip balm with. I will melt a little and put it in my TBH and see what it gets me. I also have some lemongrass oil for soap making, I'll put...

Do you need a swarm box?

I have been reading lots of posts and articles about catching swarms to supply your apiary. I am building a top bar hive and was shocked at the price of a box or nuc of bees. I live in a pretty rural...
