Majority of Maple here have not even blossomed out before the blizzard...plenty left to feed the bees coming up next week . last year I marked maple bloom on April 30 here.

I did a single brood box ,but it wasn't restricted to a single at all times. I had a single for awhile during spring, then a double brood box, then a split during spring buildup which turns into...

lol...I said the same to Jeff.......the bees were already in his hive box! :)

Here is a thought...it's not for everyone especially if you don't have a bee vac....but in case you do, set up a 10"...

Your experience was similar to my own...we are on the same lattitude....the summer flow did not last long and by the time I figured out it wasn't going to get better, the bees had begun eating all...

Put an empty box on top of lower box and then shake/brush off each frame into bottom box thru the empty box...then install your excluder and put your box of comb back on over the lower box....
