    BT On Honey Frames

Planning on spraying BT on my comb today for winter storage. In the past, I have only sprayed brood comb. I would like to do the honey combs too because I do not have enough space in my freezer this...

Re: Mouse guard, entrance and snow today

I wouldn't bother to clean the BB until the next time it warms up. Then smoke them to get any out of the way. J

Re: Wax moth prevention in storing

I got mine yesterday and it is 2 years old! The seller represents that it is fresh stock shipped directly from Valent. Do not buy from this liar, cheat and fraud: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264476608439

Re: I left my hive sealed up - UGH!

We all do things like that. I feel the same way when I do it, but stop kicking yourself. Hope it works out. J

Re: Wax moth prevention in storing

Eric, they do have a code on the package, but you have to decode it. There is a thread here about it from last year. I will post it if I can find it. J

Re: Getting bees to move into Deep

Next year add the deep to the top of a box that is 80% drawn out, not under it. They like to move up. They are also reluctant to draw out frames on the sides so you need to swap them out for one that...

Re: Wax moth prevention in storing

It is much cheaper, but has it expired? I won't buy from a seller who doesn't state that it is fresh. J

Re: Wax moth prevention in storing

I bought mine from this seller on ebay who claims that it is fresh and direct from the factory: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xentari-BT-1lb-Bag/264476608439?hash=item3d9408c7b7:g:B-8AAOSwofdbVfYi. $40...
  10. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

I believe the issue is you are beginning your treatments just as the mite population is expanding rapidly while you still have a good population of brood under cappings. It is hard to get ahead of...

    Re: honey moisture

What Frank suggested will work. As a guy with only a few hives, its worth the trouble for me. If you have room, a tub or shower stall works well to enclose the space. Another option is to use the...

    Re: OAV injection location

You can put a shim on your bottom board too. Some like to do this to lift the frames up for doing a OAV with a wand and to take frames out of a draft. J

    Re: Queenless hive

If you have a healthy population and can get a queen somewhere, I would get a mated queen. If not, no choice but do a combine with another hive. J

Re: getting ready for winter in PA

When you fall feed, feed quick and in quantity so it does not seem like a flow. Many, myself included, use 1 gal paint cans. J

    Re: Check Your Bear Fences

I have an alternating hot/cold netted fence also so I just have to make sure it is grounding well. To look at it, you wouldn't think it would deter a bear but if working properly, it certainly does. ...

Re: Cleanning out wet frames but.......

How are you adding them to the hive? Many here suggest putting an empty super above the inner cover and the super of wet frames above that in order to get them to clean them out and not refill. I...

    Re: extremely aggressive today?

We still have a decent, but dwindling flow here. I find that they do this in the fall and interpret it as being defensive of their stores knowing that winter is coming. If you have a flow of some...
  24. Re: Bee Excluder with empty super below a good idea?

I am unclear what you are asking, but I will take a guess that what you heard about placing an empty super under a honey super is after you extract it. You place the empty super on top on the inner...

Re: Moving beehives across the yard

Listen to Michael Bush. I had to move 2 hives a short distance and it worked well. Do not fail to do the "leave behind box" if you want it to work well and as fast as possible. J
