    48 hour mite count= 4.
    Had a hard time counting due to debris, mostly pollen and wax moth poop.
    Somehow they get in and wind up hatching out under the mesh screen.

    Unfortunately for new beekeepers, we have to take on board what other more experienced Beeks say..... having said that, y'll have had 30 years to deal the mites and its still here and in NZ worse...

    I went to pinch the last, so called, empty frame this afternoon, late; only to find they had already filled half of it with honey AND capped it.....within the last week.

    I insulated the top of my hive with surplus ceiling insulation. Mine is a wool based product, treated to inhibit mites from eating it, so after 20 years it still looks like it did when it was new....

    I had to move my hive in late summer from one end of the back yard to the other, around 20 meters. Unfortunately, it had to be on a work day, which meant the hive was in lock down til mid afternoon....

    I also found that if the plastic frames are not heavily waxed, they are really slow to build out on them.

    The hive is now going into its third year- same colony in the same hive body, a supersedure Queen from last summer.
