Re: Mann Lake's mill run hiveware

Just curious if I missed the sale this year, or they just didn't have it?

Re: #8 Duck Cloth Inner Cover

I really wouldn't have drilled a hole in the box, it's unnecessary. There are usually enough holes in the boxes after a few years to try to keep em sealed up.

    Re: Bee-shed idea ...

Size of frame is irrelevant. DESIGN of frame is different. AZ frames don't have tabs to hold them up and rest on rails with a radius cut on the top and bottom bars to disuade the bees from...

    Re: Bee-shed idea ...

Not an AZ style, it uses standard Lang frames. There are a lot of people using that system but most of the videos you see will be in Russian and it's advantages are that you don't have to pull off...

Re: Regarding honey stores for winter...

If winter is longer/colder than you expect or spring is cold and long, think how sad you will be in the spring to find the colony dead with absolutely NO food left in the hive. Better to have more...
  6. Re: need a hand from those who have a maxant bottling tank

Maxant has been more than helpful with me. They might not always have accurate records on the really old stuff though (yes, I keep an eye out for bargains).

    Re: my new hive lifter

There's a guy in Canada making similar units, can't remember his website though.

    Re: Bees seen collecting wax

Look at the landing board, I bet that wax ends up going outside just like capping wax does when they cut it open. (well first to the floor, then cleaned out)

    Re: Nectar Flow Ontario

If I were you, I would get in touch with the University of Guelph's beekeeper program. Close to you, and they also have a YT channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3mjpM6Av4bxbxps_Gh5YPw UoG...

    Re: Wax dipping

I haven't dipped any yet, but have been looking at it. That being said, I believe the wax would prevent the glue from adhering to the wood in the joints as it wants to be absorbed into the fibers. ...

    Re: 1:1 vs 2:1 Syrup

Yup, Make it as sugar heavy as possible and it won't go bad as fast on ya. If the bees want more water, they will find it.

Re: ProVap 110 and palletized Hives

If you go to Youtube and look, "A Canadian Beekeeper’s Blog" he has a video of them using the provap to do the hives through the front entrance without any holes being drilled.

Re: Blurr comb on a frame

Take that comb, melt it down and paint another frame with it so it's not wasted. It may not be much, but when you are starting out and have no drawn comb, every bit is valuable.

Re: Which way to go for jacket sizing?

    I totally disagree with Nancy,

Get the ventilated suit for the hot days, but then again I am a rather hefty person and sweat easily. When I wear a solid one, it quickly gets soaked. I have a...

Re: Bear Fence with Solar Charger Question

The fence charger should go DIRECTLY on the BATTERY TERMINALS. The solar charge controller will prevent over charging the battery by diverting power to the LOAD (typically a heater element) to not...

I agree with swapping batteries. I still have a couple feet of snow to contend with unfortunately.

    Re: Vermont Bill Before Legislature

Since Maine's rules were brought up, Maine has a Draft Proposed Rules for Chapter 270 - Maine Apiary Rules and Regulations (PDF). Still, with the registration costs going up between $8-$50, still...
  19. Re: 2019 package bee prices very high with major suppliers, why?

And then you have the farmer trying to be nice and snowblowing the yard and couldn't see your hives till they got ground up the chute OR a bear decides to have a snack. Things happen. Try to breed...

    Re: March Madness Sale Monopoly

I got the Mann Lake catalog today, seems twice as thick as last year's catalog if I remember correctly, but I haven't looked through it yet. "cutting the cost of printing and shipping thousands of...

    Re: attach trap to tree

The owner of the trees may not want ya to put metal into the tree if they plan on harvesting them for wood (makes for a blade damaging projectile if they hit it). Just something to think about if...

    Re: March Madness Sale Monopoly

I liked the old Kelley frames, but they have discontinued them. I have a feeling the Kelley boxes days are numbered too (my opinion, but would it make business sense to keep 2 production lines?). I...
